As many as 1,081 officials of traffic police were awarded departmental punishments during the year 2013.
This was informed to AIG Traffic Ghulam Qadir Thebo in a report, said a press release on Sunday.
According to the report, 57 inspectors, 337 sub-inspectors, 301 assistant sub-inspectors, 87 head constables and 301 constables were awarded major and minor punishments. The punishments included termination, forced retirement, demotion, extra drill, fines and others.
The report stated that during 2013, 1,384,014 cars were challaned for the violation of traffic rules and fine of Rs 292,172,250 was imposed. Around 23,340 cars were taken in police custody and 1,805 drivers were arrested. It was stated in report that the fitness certificates of 944 public transport vehicles were suspended in all five traffic zones of the city. It further said that 4,180 school vans were challaned and fine of Rs 2,143,600 was imposed for installing substandard CNG kits and cylinders during the period May 30 to December 31, 2013.
