18 die in stampede in India

At least 18 people were killed and more than 40 were injured in a stampede in India’s western city of Mumbai.
According to local officials, the incident took when thousands of mourners gathered at the home of the spiritual leader of Dawoodi Bohra community who died on Friday.
Reports suggest that people were crushed after the house gates, where deceased leader’s remains were kept, were closed.
Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, died at the age of 102. His funeral is expected later on Saturday.
The Dawoodi Bohra community are Ismaili Shias.
Similar tragedies in India in recent years have killed hundreds of people.
In October, 115 people were crushed in a stampede at a Hindu festival in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.
In 2011 more than 100 died at a festival in the southern state of Kerala.
In 2008, 220 people were killed in a stampede at the Chamunda Devi Hindu temple in Mehrangarh Fort of Jaipur.
