Saddened over the death of Crime Investigation Department (CID) Superintendent of Police (SP) Chaudhary Muhammad Aslam, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has urged the provincial and federal governments to adopt an effective and coordinated strategy to ensure talks with the Taliban.

While talking to the journalists in the city, Khan condemned the attack on police officers in Karachi and expressed ‘disappointment’ over SP Aslam’s death.

“More terrorist groups are formed after every attack. The government should make haste in initiating talks with the ones who are ready for a dialogue,” Khan said.

Furthermore, in a statement issued from the party’s secretariat on Thursday, PTI chairman paid tribute to the bravery, commitment and courage of the slain police officers. He said that their tragic departure indeed was a great loss for both the police department and the nation.

Demanding immediate enquiry of the incident, Khan has pressed provincial government to bring culprits to the book. He said that the provincial and federal governments boasted of their operations against criminals in Karachi while terrorism was on the rise.

Khan pointed out that in the absence of a joint political support and strategy for the operation, law enforcement agencies, especially the police, were under attack and bearing the brunt of ineffectiveness and indecision of political leadership in the province.

Urging the federal and provincial governments to maintain an effective and combined political strategy to deal with terrorism, cricketer-turned-politician said, “It is hard to curb these kinds of incidents without dismantling terror networks and restoring law and order across the country especially in Karachi.”

“We express solidarity with the bereaved families and stand by the people of Karachi whom Chaudhary Aslam and his associates were endeavouring to protect from permanent threat of terrorism, lawlessness and target killing,” he concluded.
