The special court for treason trial of former president Pervez Musharraf on Friday announced that the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) would apply in the proceedings of the case, private news channel reported.
On January 8, Head of the prosecution, Advocate Akram Sheikh argued before the court saying according to a ruling issued by the Supreme Court, all crimes under the Army Act fall under Pakistan’s penal court. He also added that the special court enjoys the powers equivalent to those of a High Court.
The bench headed by Justice Faisal Arab reserved its ruling on the application of criminal laws on the case until January 10 (today).
Also on Friday, the special court dismissed a plea seeking stay order against verdict issued on Thursday for summoning the former president to court on January 16 for the treason trial.
The court remarked that it does not have the power to change its own verdict.
