Not excused, show up on 16: court tells Musharraf

The Special Court on Thursday issued its verdict on former President Pervez Musharraf’s medical reports and ordered him to appear before the bench on January 16, a private news channel reported.
The special court announced its verdict at 2 pm in reference to Musharraf’s appearance before the bench in the treason case against him after an earlier hearing where prosecution and defense lawyers presented their arguments.
The court remarked that the report mentioned that Musharraf had Angina pain and shoulder ache but did not state that he cannot appear in court in this condition. The bench ordered the former dictator to appear in January 16 hearing or the court will be issuing the needed orders.
Ruling on application of the Criminal Procedure Code against the former president will be issued on Friday.
The court resumed earlier on Thursday, when Musharraf’s counsel Anwar Mansoor Khan informed the court that he has received threats on his phone last night, urging him to drop the case. He added that the caller’s number has been sent to the security authorities and an FIR has also been lodged in this regard.
Justice Faisal Arab ordered to provide security to the prosecuting and defence team in the case.
The defence team pleaded to the court to exempt Musharraf from appearance in the court until his health condition become stable.
Chief Prosecutor Akram Sheikh talked to the media after the hearing and remarked that the medical report presented by AFIC does not state that Musharraf cannot attend the hearing.
On Tuesday, Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) presented Mushrraf’s medical report to the bench after which the bench ruled to examine the report and adjourned the court till Thursday (today) to deliver its verdict.
