Seeking the details of security provided to high-ups, including the prime minister (PM), the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday said the court would not allow discrimination with anyone.
During the hearing of a petition regarding non-provision of security to former chief justice (CJ) Iftikhar Chaudhry, IHC CJ Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui remarked, “Violator of constitution has been given foolproof security and protector of it has been given only 2005 model car.”
He said, “If government can provide foolproof security to its officials and former dictator then why former CJ could not be facilitated. We will not allow discriminatory behaviour with anyone.”
Cabinet Division Joint Secretary Ziaul Haq submitted a report regarding security provided to Chaudhry, while DSP Azhar appeared before the court on behalf of the Islamabad IG.
During hearing, the CJ inquired from government officials about the progress on implementation of court orders regarding provision of security to Chaudhry.
On this, Ziaul Haq said the former CJ has also been provided the security, while reply and summary with this connection have also been submitted in the court.
Petitioner’s counsel Sheikh Ahsanuddin told the court that as per summary issued by the government, the former CJ has not been given a bullet-proof vehicle but a 2005 model car.
He also said it has been described in the summary that Chaudhry should use the given vehicle like other retired officials.
The IHC CJ remarked, “The person who should be given bullet-proof vehicle is not being provided and one who should not be given is being facilitated by thousands of vehicles and security personnel.”
Later on, seeking a detailed report of security provided to all high officials, the court adjourned the hearing until January 15.
