Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Wednesday demanded former president Pervez Musharraf’s treason trial be conducted from October 12, 1999 instead of November 3, 2007 putting forward nine relevant questions for the consideration of intellectuals and constitutional experts particularly PCO judges.
He enquired under which section of the constitution, the judges on oath had declared the October 12, 1999 act valid and legal, and General Musharraf was allowed to hold office for three years, under which constitution and law the military government was authorised to make amendments in the constitution?
How those who declared November 3, 2007 emergency unconstitutional, condoning the October 12, 1999 act?
None of the generals imposing martial law in the past were imprisoned even for a second, under which constitution and law Pervez Musharraf alone was declared responsible for the enforcement of emergency?
Under which section of the constitution the generals associated with the emergency enforcement act were let go free from suffering the ordeals of trial?
In a statement from London, Altaf Hussain threw questions at legal experts and political analysts, and came to the defence of former army chief Pervez Musharraf who is facing high treason charges for abrogating the Constitution and imposing emergency in 2007.
