UN resolution on Kashmir self-determination unimplemented after 60 years

EU Kashmir Council Chairman Ali Raza Syed has urged the United Nations to implement its resolutions pertaining to giving right of self-determination to Kashmiris, passed six decades ago.
In a statement on Right to Self-Determination Day on Sunday, he said one of the resolutions the world-body passed on January 5, 1949, is of massive significance as it provides legitimate basis for the way out of the Kashmir dispute.
Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world observe the Right to Self-Determination Day on January 5 every year to remind the world that the UN resolutions on Kashmir remained unimplemented even after the passage of more than six decades.
It was on January 5, 1949 that the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution, acknowledging the right to self-determination of Kashmiris and giving them the right to decide their future by themselves.
Ali Raza Syed maintained that the UN resolutions approved the fundamental rights of the Kashmiris that Jammu and Kashmir belonged to them and they were the owners of their political destiny.
Expressing regret over the inability of the UN to implement its resolutions, he urged the world-body to play its pivotal role in resolving the Kashmir dispute for perpetual peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia.
He remind the UN’s Secretary General Ban-Ki moon to fulfill the organisation’s obligation in the context of Kashmir issue and demanded practical measures to end the miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Also, Azad Kashmir President Sardar Yaqoob Khan has urged the UN to force India to implement its resolutions on Kashmir.
Addressing Kashmir E-mail Conference in connection with Kashmir Self-Determination Day, he said Kashmiris are peace-loving people and want to get their legitimate right to self-determination through the UN resolutions already passed in 1948 and 1949.
Earlier, he inaugurated the E-mail conference through which message of right to self-determination will be conveyed to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
He said the Kashmiris will continue their struggle till achieving their goal.
