In yet another incident of honor killing, brothers gunned down their sister and her husband for doing love marriage and voluntarily surrendered themselves in the police station on Sunday.

Police said that Sana and Amjad of Chak number 107 had married by choice, but the Punchaiyet had sent Sana back to her parent’s house. Ignoring punchaiyet’s orders Amjad kept on meeting her. Today, when Sana went to meet Amjad, her brothers shot them dead and surrendered them.

The number of honor killings in Pakistan is estimated to be around 2,500 to 3,000 cases every year. However, the report states that a good number of such cases still go unreported or are passed off as suicides and only 25% of these are brought to justice.
