Bullet proof vehicles be provided to former CJP: IHC

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday issued directives to provide a bullet proof vehicle and security to the former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry by January 9.

During the hearing of a petition filed in connection with provision of security to former CJP, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui directed the interior ministry and cabinet division to provide security and bullet proof vehicle to former CJP till January 9, adding that no excuse will be heard in this regard.

“If a bullet proof vehicle is not provided to former CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry then bullet proof vehicles will be withdrawn from all VIPs,” Justice Siddiqui said at the hearing.

Inspector General of Islamabad police Sikandar Hayat responded to the court that the police force does not have a bullet proof vehicle, adding that it could only be provided under the directives of the Prime Minister.

The court snubbed the IG and enquired if he expects the former chief justice to personally request the PM in this regard, warning that such vehicles will be withdrawn from all high-profile persons if the former CJP is not provided with one immediately.
