Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Farhatullah Babar on Friday said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) silence over former president Pervez Musharraf’s assertion that he had the army support gave the impression that the army was secretly backing him.
During a session of the Senate, on a point of order, Babar said he had expected the ISPR to comment on Musharraf’s statement, as it had done on Jamiat-e-Islami (JI) chief Munawar Hasan’s “martyr comment”.
Senate Chairman Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said Babar could not issue such remarks while raising a point of objection and switched off his mike.
PML-N Senator Raja Zafarul Haq responded that the defence ministry had earlier given an explanation on Musharraf’s statement and added that the ISPR was not obliged to respond to every statement.
Moreover, Awami National Party’s (ANP) Senator Haji Adeel said the government was more concerned with the trial of the former military ruler and his security rather than focusing on talks with the terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Adeel asked the government to take serious steps for revival of peace and elimination of terrorism. He said tribal jirgas should be taken on board for return of peace to FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Jamaat-e-Islami for blocking the NATO’s supplies, saying it has adversely affected the Afghan transit trade. He said the blockade has hurt the trade and transport activities in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The house will now meet on Monday at 3pm.

  1. When MartialLaw was imposed General Musharraf, serving COAS, was in the plan hijacked by the then PM Nawaz Sharif alonwith other passengers, which was being forced to land in India. Army retaliated against this digraceful act of Nawaz and toppled his government.
Gen Musharraf was told about the situation after landing and he owned the Army action as part of Army. Now Army should be morally bound to support Gen Musharraf against these fraud politicians, who grabbed the power by fraudulent sale / purchase and rig marolling of votes and constituencies. Some of the generals, who are betraying him, like Hameed Gul Muhammad (batman type), Khalid Maqbool, Qadir Baloch etc are on paid role of PML-N.
