Due to closure of canals for dredging and cleaning, hydel power generation has gone down significantly and the shortfall on Thursday crossed 3,000 MW.
According to reports, due to shortage in demand and supply of electricity, eight hours of load shedding is being carried out in cities while the rural areas are being subjected to around 16 hours of load shedding.
Besides hydel generation, Chashma power and some other plants had also been closed for repair affecting electricity generation, the sources added. Chashma 1and 2 will be closed in the middle of April for annual refuelling.
