The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday ordered the federal government to finalise the appointment of Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman immediately.
The order by IHC judge Shaukat Aziz Siddqui came during the hearing of a case filed by petitioner Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman who argued that the appointment of HEC chairman has not been finalised 130 days post the acting chairman took charge of the commission.
The petitioner added that an acting chairman can work only for 90 days.
Justice Siddqui remarked that the matter should also be brought in the notice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to end the negative impact on education.
The court ordered the government to submit a written reply in court until January 6 in this regard and adjourned the hearing.
