The Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) on Wednesday opposed the proposed talks between the government and terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
SIC Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza, MWM Political Affairs Secretary Syed Nasir Abbas Sherazi and Voice of Shuhada-e-Pakistan spokesman Senator Faisal Raza Abidi said this while addressing a joint press conference at MWM office.
The MWM and SIC leadership mutually claimed that they would not allow the government to organise talks with terrorists at the cost of the constitution.
They said, “The government should not hold negotiations with the TTP who neither do recognise Pakistan’s constitution nor they respect country’s sovereignty”.
They announced that the MWM, SIC and VoSP would hold a “National Peace Conference” on January 5 in Islamabad.
Sherazi demanded that instead of the TTP the government start talks with the aggrieved families and relatives of martyrs amid terrorist attacks. He asked the government to ensure that the country’s geographical boundaries were in safe hands. He pointed out that people were worried about national security in general and those who lost their beloved family members are concerned specifically.
“They (families of martyrs) want assurance that the government will not spoil the sacrifices offered by their loved members,” he demanded.
Raza criticised the government’s compromising policy to hold talks with the TTP at the same time undermining the law of the land. He urged the government to end the drama of having talks with the TTP and to start operation to eliminate the law violators immediately.
The SIC chairman underlined that Ashiqan-e-Mustafa would begin country-wide protest if the government happened to pursue and implement TTP’s agenda.
Scores of family members and relatives of the martyrs from the Pakistan Army, police as well as of general public will participate in Islamabad convention on January 5.
