Ahad Khan Cheema to be conferred with Sitara-e-Imtiaz
Lahore Development Authority (LDA) continued to strive for the betterment of Lahore during the year 2013. TEPA, a subordinate agency of LDA completed the gigantic project of the first ever metro-bus system of the country, in shortest possible duration, at a cost of Rs 30 billion in the provincial metropolis. In recognition of his meritorious services for materialising this scheme in an efficient and transparent manner, the Government of Pakistan announced to confer the award of Sitara-e-Imtiaz on LDA Director General Ahad Khan Cheema.
LDA had to suffer the irreparable loss of precious lives of its 22 officials, as a result of the tragic fire incident at LDAPlaza, on 9th May 2013. However, all possible steps were taken for the financial assistance and welfare of the families of these martyrs, who will always be remembered by their fellows.
Through necessary legislation, the Punjab Assembly extended the jurisdiction of Lahore Development Authority to the whole of Lahore Division. LDA has now been entrusted with the task of master planning and executing projects related to the development of infrastructure and approval of private housing schemes in the adjoining districts of Lahore including Kasur, Shaikupura and Nankana Sahib, as well.
In order to ensure quick implementation of development projects and making LDA an efficient public-service organisation, the Lahore Development Authority Governing Body has been reconstituted with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif as its chairman.
