The roads outside the residence of former president Asif Ali Zardari turned into a battlefield on Sunday when the workers of Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf clashed over a security barrier surrounding the house.
The PTI workers gathered outside the Zardari’s residence and the Bilawal House and demanded demolition of the security wall surrounding it.
The 50 feet-high wall was declared illegal by the Sindh High Court in September. The decision was upheld by the Supreme Court in October. The wall, stretching over 650 meter was erected after Asif Ali Zardari took oath as president in September 2008 and it is blamed for choking the traffic through an arterial road passing by the house. The local administration tried to pacify them by opening up one side of the blocked road. However, things turned ugly when the PPP workers, determined to protect the wall which they think is necessary to secure their leaders Zardari and his son Bilawal Bhutto, attacked the PTI activists with sticks and stones. Police and paramilitary personnel turned out in heavy number to disperse the activists and restore normalcy to the area. “The PPP brought ‘goondas’ who beat our workers up and injured them, and the police also took their side and arrested our men,” PTI leader Arif Alvi said.
PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto issued a statement alleging that the PTI workers brought weapons to the rally outside the house. “Imran Khan is bent upon doing all those things which are damaging the country. Every party has a right to peaceful demonstrations, however, no party, whether it is the PPP or the PTI, has the right to resort to violence at any cost,” Bilawal said. PPP leaders Qadir Patel and Sharmila Farooqi rubbished Alvi’s claim and said no one would be allowed to destroy the sanctity of the home of their slain leader, Benazir Bhutto. “The PTI led by Arif Alvi acted like goons and tried to use force but our workers will not tolerate this at any cost,” Patel said.
Per some media reports, Advisor to Chief Minister Sharmila Farooqi’s fiery speech to the party workers caused clash between the PTI and the PPP. She instigated her workers and prepared them to retaliate with full force against the protesters, it reported.
When will sindh get its freedom from this tyrant family. Bilawal is the peroson who can not come in to public, who ran away from country when needed.
The history of this whole family is filled with stories of corruption , nepotism, and above all responsible for breakup of pakistan.
Bilawal and his whole family has no respect for courts order . his father was president and they have govt in this province why did not improve security sitiation.
Shame on poeple who support him.
why would should people over something that has been declared illegal. I am shocked with reaction from PPP supporters on this, what kind of democracy is this. If you are so afraid of being attacked, move your house to a safer place, why block public roads?. These people get the best education yet behave like animals.
soon they will be driven into the sea by the majority.
