The SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an apex body of chambers in the region, Saturday welcomed Pakistan and India for fully ensuring durable ceasefire along the line of control by holding a directors general military operations meeting.

SCCI President Vikramjit Singh said the resolve and commitment to continue efforts for ensuring peace on the LoC was good for normalisation of relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s goodwill gesture and initiative to normalise relations with neighbouring countries, especially India, would have far-reaching effects in maintaining peace, ensuring political stability and economic boom in the entire SAARC region.

Vikramjit Singh said this while taking to SAARC CCI Vice President (Pakistan Chapter) Iftikhar Ali Malik on telephone.

Vikramjit said: “The Pakistani premier’s initiative is a good omen and we welcome it. The step will not only help realise the dream of a peaceful and prosperous subcontinent but also bring together the business community and private sectors of regional countries. The enhanced trade ties will ultimately jack up exports among the SAARC states in general and Pak-India in particular.”

SAARC CCI Vice President and Member of Pakistan Planning Commission’s Advisory Committee Iftikhar Ali Malik said the improvement of relations between both the countries was of vital importance to regional peace, stability and development. He said all core issues and disputes between the two countries could be solved properly through dialogue. He said he would soon lead another private sector delegation to India.
