PTI govt trails biometric system in LB polls

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government conducted a trial voting under new biometric system in an effort to hold free and fair local bodies (LB) elections across the province on Saturday.

The demo polling was arranged in a neighborhood and village council of Peshawar.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa election commission (KEC), the polling is being held at village council Badhai, ward Wadpagga and neighborhood council Sir Buland Pura in Peshawar.

The thumb impression and national identity card of voters are being verified through biometric machine after which they will be sent to the polling booths to cast their vote.

The polling that started at 8am will continue till 5pm.

Pakistan Chief Election Commissioner Justice Nasirul Mulk will also visit the polling stations.

It is also learnt that NADRA officials were also monitoring the biometric system along with the EC officials.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said he would ensure transparency in upcoming local government elections in KP.
