The process of filing of nomination papers on Saturday completed in Punjab while more than 16, 000 candidates have registered to contest in the local government (LG) elections from Lahore alone.
In Punjab, LG elections are scheduled to take place on January 30.
According to reports, 14, 991 applications have been received in Lahore from December 22 to 27 and 1, 522 people have applied for the posts of chairman and vice chairman.
In addition, 2, 031 women are also taking part in the LG polls. Members of the minority community are also among the contestants.
More than 1, 500 applications have been submitted for labour councilors.
However, the objections to the nomination papers for LG elections in Punjab can be filed from today (Sunday).
According to schedule‚ scrutiny of the nomination papers would take place from December 30 to January 4.
Appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers would be filed on January 6 and 7, which will be disposed of from 8th to 11th of next month.
Nomination papers can be withdrawn by January 12 and the list of contesting candidates with symbols would be published on the January 13.
Polling for LG elections in the province will be held on January 30.
