A man was killed on Saturday in Bajaur Agency after mortar shells were fired from Afghanistan, officials said.
Security officials said the incident took place in border town of Nawagai area of Bajaur Agency, bordering Afghanistan.
“Three mortar shells were fired from Kunar province of Afghanistan and one of them landed on a Pakistani village,” officials said.
Some shells landed in a border other areas but no life loss was reported.
Officials did not immediately confirm whether the shells were fired by Afghan border troops or miscreants battling US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan as well as Pakistani security forces inside tribal areas.
Pakistan has been lodging “protest” with the Afghan government through military and other channels.
“However, firing from across the border leads to civilian casualties and Pakistani forces off and on return the fire,” sources elaborated.
Recent cross-border shelling triggered protests by Islamabad and denials by Kabul.
