The first batch of 300 HEC scholars will graduate as medical doctors from Cuba in February 2014. Graduation ceremony of these scholars will be held in Cuba during third week of February.

The students representing all provinces of Pakistan including FATA and AJK will be required to qualify a National Examination Board to be conducted by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) after successful graduation from Cuba.

It is expected that these graduating doctors will contribute to improve the health sector of Pakistan and would also strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The Cuban government had offered 1,000 scholarships to Pakistani students after October 2005 earthquake. The students were selected on merit by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and were sent to Cuba in two different batches.

The Cuban government is also providing free education, books, laundry, Halal food, health insurance and other miscellaneous expenditures while the Government of Pakistan is providing monthly stipend and air tickets.

Cuba has an excellent public healthcare system. The health indicators of Cuba are comparable with any developed country of the world.
