Former Prime Minister and Chairperson of Pakistan People’s Party Benazir Bhutto’s sixth death anniversary is being observed on Friday (today).
A public holiday has been announced in Sindh in the deceased leader’s memory.
The former President Asif Ali Zardari, husband of the late PM and her son current PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be addressing the crowd of party supporters gathered at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh for the occasion.
Strict security arrangements have been made in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh with over 6000 security personnel deployed in the area, including police, rangers and special commandos.
The area around the Bhutto mausoleum has been sealed while devotees and party supporters will be allowed entry through metal detecting walk through gates.
Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras have also been put up to monitor the situation.
The ceremony will commence at around 2pm with Zardari and Bilawal’s addresses to the crowd and observance of one minute silence at 5:20pm.
In Rawalpindi, prayers will be held at Liaquat Bagh in Raja Bazaar where Benazir Bhutto gave her last speech before being attacked on December 27, 2007.
