Special court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of treason case against former president Pervez Musharraf till January 1, according to private news channels.

The case hearing was headed by Justice Faisal Arab, who put off the indictment of Musharraf until the next hearing.

Advocates of Musharraf Ahmed Raza Kasuri and Khalid Ranjha talked to the media after the case hearing and stated that objections have been submitted to challenge the authority of the special court and  to object to the appointment of the prosecutor and that the objections will be heard at the next hearing.

Musharraf’s lawyers had sought his exemption from the hearing due to security concerns over which Justice Faisal Arab granted the former president exemption from the first hearing of the trial.

The judge however remarked that Musharraf’s appearance in the hearing is compulsory as it is a criminal case.

The prosecutors requested the court to issue non-bailable warrants of Musharraf for not appearing in the court. The request was rejected by the bench.

Earlier on Tuesday, police said they found five kilograms (11 pounds) of explosive material along with a detonator and two pistols close to the route to the National Library in Islamabad where the treason trial was to be held.
