Chehlum of Imam Hussain (R.A) is being observed on Tuesday (today) all over Pakistan amid a high security alert to prevent any unfortunate event, according to private news channels.
Pillion riding on motorcycles has been banned countrywide along with suspension of cellular service in more than 31 cities including Islamabad , Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Sukkur, Quetta and Gilgit.
The mourning processions will be monitored through close-circuit television cameras and aerial surveillance.
10,000 security personnel have been deployed along the procession routes in Karachi.
To deflect any sectarian clash in Rawalpindi, several parts of the city have been sealed while thousands of personnel of law enforcing agencies including Rangers, police and army have been deployed.
Strict security measures have also been adopted in Lahore, Multan, Peshawar and the tribal areas.
