The Sindh High court (SHC) on Monday advised former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf to approach the federal government to strike his name off the exit control list (ECL).
While disposing of the case on Musharraf’s petition seeking permission to travel abroad, the court said it didn’t order to put or remove his name on the ECL and, therefore, it does not fall within court’s jurisdiction. The court asked Musharraf’s counsel A Q Halepotto to get in touch with the government to lift a ban on his client’s international movements.
A Q Halepoto had requested the court to remove Musharraf’s name from the ECL last month, pleading that his client needed to go abroad to visit his ailing mother. The court has reserved verdict to be announced later.
The government had barred Musharraf from going outside the country as he had previously been arrested in at least three murder cases, including the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
The courts have granted him bails in three cases. However, his name still remains in the ECL.
Musharrf is a warm potato ! No body wants to carry it—-pass it on. The circus continues.
