Musharraf to file review petition against SC decision

Former president and dictator, General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf, is all set to file a review petition against the Supreme Court’s (SC) July 31, 2009 verdict regarding imposition of emergency 2007 on Monday.
According to reports, teams of legal counsellors have been set up to defend the former dictator that will defend Musharraf nationally and internationally.
Sources of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) informed that Ibrahim Satti will file an application against the SC decision.
Though belated, the petition will challenge the judgment in which a 14-judge bench headed by then chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry declared unconstitutional and illegal Musharraf’s second coup through Emergency Order of November 3, 2007, and most of the actions taken under it, including the appointment of over 100 superior court judges.
According to sources, strategy has been devised to start campaign to favour Musharraf in courts and outside the country.
A 10-member lawyers team, four-member research team and five-member legal think-tank have been established to investigate, research and finally defend the former dictator.
Musharraf’s lawyers-team consists of Ilyas Siddiqui, Ibrahim Satti, N A Rehman Qureshi, Barrister Saif, Barrister Shahida Jamil, Barrister Kiran Ayub, Ahmad Raza Qasoori, Barrister S J Durrani, Afshaan Adil and Rana Farooq.
Sharif-ud-Din Pirzada, Wasim Sajjad, S M Zaffar and Malik Qayyum have been named as members of research team that will assist field lawyers.
A think tank consisting upon former judges and former minister Dr Khalid Ranjha has also been established.
The decision to file the review petition was taken during a consultative meeting also attended by Gen Musharraf.
Musharraf’s saviours have compiled a book of 1200 pages to present before the court.
