Bangladesh: Police charge owners for factory fire

Bangladesh police has charged 13 people, including the two owners over a factory fire in Ashulia district  near Dhaka in November 2012. More than 100 people were killed in the fire.

According to police, Delwar Hossain and his wife, as well as security guards and managers have been charged over the fire that erupted Tazreen factory in Dhaka.

“Delwar and his wife Mahmuda Akter and 11 others have been charged with death due to negligence,” police investigator AKM Mohsinuzzaman Khan told the news agencies.

The fire sparked protests from thousands of workers who alleged the factory building was unsafe. The owner, Delwar Hossain had denied the allegations.

It was deadliest garment factory fire in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has since vowed to improve conditions at its garment factories.
