Musharraf challenges trial by special court in IHC

Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf on Saturday challenged his treason trial by the special court in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Musharraf’s counsel Dr Khalid Ranjha filed a petition in IHC, in which he questioned the Special court’s authorities. He pleaded that Pervez Musharraf imposed emergency in Army uniform, and therefore, he could only be tried in a military court under the Army Act.

He further blamed that trying Musharraf under Article 6 showed the malicious intent and political agenda on the PML-N government.

The advocate also prayed that the emergency imposed on November 3 2007, was not an individual step, and therefore, Musharraf could not alone be held responsible.
