Colorful events including kite flying at Changa Manga Forest Park to be part of festival
Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and Provincial Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan unveiled the logo of Punjab Youth Festival 2014 at Gymnasium of Punjab Sports Board on Saturday.
Members of national and provincial assemblies of the city, sports experts and a large number of young players attended the function.
Addressing on the occasion, Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said that 5 million youth will participate in Punjab Youth Festival 2014 whereas 40 foreign teams are expected to participate this year. He said that colorful events of special spring mela including kite flying in Changa Manga Forest Park will be part of Punjab Youth Festival. He said that Punjab government is also considering the proposal of holding spring mela in JalloPark.
Hamza while appreciating the courage and enthusiasm of Punjab youth said that after the high standard and glorious success of Punjab Youth Festival 2012, neighbouring countries are also following it.
Talking to media on the occasion, Provincial Minister for Sports, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that first sports university of Asia was being set up through Sports Endowment Fund in the province for polishing the physical and mental abilities of the youth in true sense whereas sports academies will also be established in every district of Punjab.
He said that 55,200 sports and youth development councils have been set up in the first phase of Punjab Youth Festival starting from December 23 at village and mohalla level which will supervise 256 various events of this festival.
Besides individual and team competitions of sports in Punjab Youth Festival 2014, more than 20 melas including horse & cattle show, literary festival, kitab mela and spring festival will be held.
