Five policemen have been held for an alleged gangrape of a teenage schoolgirl in north Indian city of Chandigarh, according to new agencies’ reports.

The policemen were taken into custody after the victim told her younger sister about the alleged assaults.

“All five accused policemen have been arrested and further investigations are being carried out,” police superintendent Sukhchain Singh Gill told agencies.

According to Gill, the girl was attacked by a policeman who was investigation a domestic violence complaint she had lodged against her alcoholic father.

She was raped at gunpoint along with four fellow policemen, police alleged.

The case is the latest in a string of attacks reported in India since the murder and gang-rape of a student in Delhi a year ago that shocked the world.

The case had resulted in legislators passing tougher penalties for crimes against women which include a life sentence for the proven rapists.
