Council for Islamic Ideology (CII) Chairman Muhammad Khan Shirani has warned that new legislation regarding inter-faith harmony instead of mending the situation will further aggravate the situation.
Addressing a press conference in Jamia Madniya on Friday, Shirani said that law regarding sectarian differences already exists but the issue is their implementation. Everyone is aware of the fact and no new legislation was needed over the issue, he added.
He warned that any attempt of legislation in the name of inter-faith harmony will increase the hypocrisy rather than improving the situation.
The CII chairman said those who claim responsibility for terror acts have nothing to do with the Taliban but they are terrorists who want to destabilise the country. “Such groups work for foreign intelligence agencies and their aim is to weaken the foundations of the country,” he added.
He said that Kashmir-dispute is a land issue related with survival of Punjab and Sindh as water-supply for both provinces depends on the water which flows through Kashmir and irrigates agricultural lands of these provinces.
Shirani said if the issue of definition of ‘Shaheed’ and ‘Jihad’ was referred to the CII, it will consider and discuss it, keeping in view the Islamic teachings.
