Opposition stages walkout from NA over Nisar’s statement

Opposition parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf and Pakistan People’s Party have staged walk-out over the statement of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar during National Assembly’s session on Wednesday.
Chaudhry Nisar had said in the session that a (single) party was staging drama over thumb verification.
Addressing reporters, Opposition leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah said his party will not become part of mid-term elections conspiracy.
The PTI Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said electronic voting system should be introduced to avoid any confusion, adding that the session was boycotted over Nisar’s remarks.
During National Assembly’s session, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said election tribunal was not under his ministry.
Referring to the PTI, the interior ministry said a “single party was staging a drama” over thumbprint-verification of votes, adding that a confusion has been created over the magnetised ink.
Nisar said the government was ready to form a committee headed by a judge to probe the matter, adding that he feared around 60 percent unverified votes in each constituency.
Nisar said that a large number of votes cannot be verified as magnetised ink was apparently not used in all districts.
He said action should be taken against those who could not provide magnetised ink to all polling stations.
Nisar said it was the responsibility of the caretaker government and election commission to ensure fair elections and prevent rigging.
