Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Chaudhry has been appointed the new foreign secretary and the government has issued a notification on Wednesday in this regard.
Chaudhry became successor to Jalil Abbas Jilani, who is moving to Washington as ambassador to the United States.
Earlier, Chaudhry was nominated ambassador-designate for Belgium and the European Union.
Ambassador Abdul Basit, currently posted in Germany, had previously been named as the next foreign secretary.
