As many as three people, including a police official, were killed and at least 16 others were injured in a blast in the parking area of a Shia imambargah in the Gracy Line area of Rawalpindi on Tuesday night.

Police sources said that security personnel deployed at the imambargah stopped a motorcyclist for checking when he was about to enter the parking area just as a mourning procession was to emerge from the building. “Instead of stopping the motorcyclist detonated his explosives, killing three people including Sub-Inspector Amanat Ali of the Airport Police Station, and injuring at least 16 other people, including SHO Inspector Rab Nawaz,” said the sources.

Police said that it was high intensity blast which destroyed at least 12 motorcycles, several vehicles besides damaging the surrounding buildings.
