The inaugural ceremony of the Sindh Festival 2014 will be held at Moenjodaro and it will conclude at Thatta.
Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister, Sharmila Faruqi, announced this at a press conference on Tuesday. She stated that the venue of the inaugural ceremony would be tastefully decorated for the occasion.
Sharmila said there would be representation of the entire country at the ceremony. She stated the two weeks’ festival was aimed at promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of the province of Sindh. The mega event will include the opening ceremony, horse and cattle grand prix, Sindh festival grand `Mushaira’, `Desi’ donkey derby, Sindh festival deep sea fishing tournament, Karachi literature festival, children’s literature festival, `Sufi’ night, Sindh international film festival, art fest, fashion fest, `ghazal’ night, Sindh music `mela’ (fair), the voice of Pakistan Sindh festival talent hunt, the Sindh festival cricket championship as well as the closing ceremony of the event.
Theme of the festival is `culture for peace’ and the concluding ceremony would be organised at Thatta.
Sharmila said Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, are taking personal interest in organising the Sindh festival.
She said the culture of Sindh is the culture of the entire Pakistan and that everyone should own the culture and work for its protection and preservation.
The Sindh Festival 2014 would also aim at helping raising funds to preserve, promote and protect the heritage sites like Mohenjodaro. The Sindh festival horse and cattle grand prix would be organised in the interior of the province.
The Sindh fest grand `mushaira’ will showcase the Urdu and the Sindhi poets of the country. To pay tribute to the `sufis’, a sufi night would also be organised.
The Sindh festival music mela, a `ghazal’ night, a fashion festival, Sindh international film festival, Karachi literature festival and a cricket championship will be held from February 1 to 15 with participation of schools and colleges from across the province.
A star bus would be launched for the `voice of Pakistan Sindh festival talent hunt’. The Sindh festival city will promote local craftsmanship. A food festival would also be the part of the mega event.
