Students protest against teacher thrashing medical student on wearing veil

Khyber Medical College students held a protest on Friday against the alleged thrashing of a female student by a teacher for wearing a veil .

According to witnesses, Anatomy Professor at KMC Rahim Bangash thrashed a first year MBBS student on wearing veil in the classroom. Bangash insisted the student to take off her veil which led to a heated argument between the two and Bangash lashed at the student in anger. He later left the college.

The event led the students to boycott classes as they demanded immediate removal of the professor by the administration.

The administration has taken notice of the incident, suspended Bangash and ordered an enquiry.

  1. It will be a test case to see how one can learn anatomy or perform autopsies with a veil on.But then with extremists it is difficult to expect rationality.

    • you yourself are the 'extremist' here, and if you have ever visited a medical college in Pakistan, you would see that many girls do exactly that with no hindrance whatsoever.

      • genesis is perhaps blind, surgeons and MLOs perform surgeries and autopsies with a surgical mask on! they are very much veiled

  9. Actually many of the advancements in science and medicine were made by Muslims. We would have been here without our Muslim scholars.

    The teacher should be indicted in court. I am surprised how many western thinking people champion women rights, yet when this disgusting teacher lays hands on an innocent sister of ours, they applaud?

    Hypocrisy? And by the way this is “The Islamic Republic of Pakistan” we need to get back to our foundational roots.

  13. It is very sad to see how the extremists require death penalty for disagreement with them. It reminds me of Middle Ages when the Western world had to deal with religious fanatics like this. They overcame them eventually but in Pakistan there is a long and hard battle to be fought. Time will tell who wins…
    I am not against religion but against religious fanaticism and its imposition on society.

    • @Martin Ellacott. No society is more extremist then the western society. Their extremes cross all morality. I don't hate Christianity but when I see their immoral practices daily in its own media it typifies a society where no one knows his or her real father. Islam is the religion of peace only if you read Holy Quran. Do not go by misconduct of few individuals.

  17. If you people are serious about Islam, then please learn it. The Prophet never imposed this pre-Islamic custom of purdah on ordinary women. Neither did Abu Bakar pbuh. It was resumed in Umar’s pbuh time.
