KP anti-polio workers refuse to work amid security threats


The health workers and volunteers have refused to discharge their duties as polio vaccinators in Khyber Agency following the recent killing of a polio worker in Jamrud.
The KP Health Department sources said the health workers and volunteers have refused to renders services any more throughout the Agency till adequate security was ensured for them.
Terrorists riding a motorcycle shot dead the anti-polio worker, identified as Yousuf, outside his home in Jamrud. The terrorists called out his name and opened fire on him and fled from the scene.
Jamrud Assistant Political Agent Jahangir Azam Wazir claimed that the killing was not an act of terrorism, rather it was the result of a personal rivalry.
Meanwhile, the political administration arrested 27 suspects, including 12 motorcyclists, during a search operation. The detainees were taken to the Jamrud lock-up for interrogation. Ban has been imposed on riding a motorcycle in Khyber Agency, Swabi and other districts following the attacks.
