Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jilani on Saturday returned his bullet-proof vehicle to the Interior Ministry, saying that he did not need the vehicle and high profile security.
The ministry sources said that the Supreme Court registrar had sent a follow-up letter to the ministry, requesting that a previous letter sent by then registrar Dr Faqir Hussain may be treated as cancelled.
They said former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry had sought high-profile security and a bullet-proof vehicle from the ministry after his retirement.
However, the new CJP ordered that the letter written by Dr Hussain should be treated as cancelled. He had sent the letter to the Interior Ministry some 10 days back and sought security for Chaudhry. However, the request was sent to the Cabinet Division by the Interior Ministry. Under rules, a retired CJP is not entitled to such high-profile security, sources added.
