Nisar for post-2014 Afghanistan strategy

Federal Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said there is an element of massive confusion among various stakeholders in Afghanistan and it is the responsibility of the international community to formulate a comprehensive strategy for the country to meet the challenges in the post 2014 phase.
He was talking to the Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Greg Giokas and Canadian Ambassador to Afghanistan Deborah Lyons, who jointly called on him on Friday.
The minister said Afghanistan is faced with a complex situation with more than one center of power and will be undergoing an economic, political and military transformation in the next 12 months. He laid emphasis on increased coordination among international, regional and Afghan stakeholders to enable the country to better solve its problems.
Talking about Pakistan’s relations with Canada, the minister said that we appreciate the consistent support of Canada for the country’s development in various sectors including oil, gas and agriculture. He said Pakistan cherishes its friendship with Canada.
He paid tribute to the people and government of Canada who have opened their hearts and hearths to the immigrants coming from around the world including Pakistan.
Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan laid emphasis on increased people to people contact between the two countries with particular focus on more interaction between their parliamentarians and businessmen.
Ambassador Lyons said that this part of the world will have greater influence in the 21st century. She said Canada is working for improving cooperation between Afghanistan, Pakistan and India with emphasis on economic, political and security perspectives, both bilaterally as well as regionally.
She mentioned that the peace overtures of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif especially his recent visit to Kabul has given very positive signals to Afghanistan giving the country hope for peace and stability. High Commissioner Giokas said that each country in the region has its own importance and a role to play in regional peace, security and development.
He congratulated the minister on Pakistan’s getting GSP Plus status in the EU market and said that Canada has already granted these concessions to the Pakistani manufacturers. He said Pakistani exporters must prepare themselves for the world.
