Three people were injured on Wednesday when enraged protesters tried to force shopkeepers and traders to close their shops in Liaquat Bazaar area of Balochistan’s capital city.
Within an hour, Quetta wore a deserted look as all shops, eateries and trading centers were forced to close down. Protesters and law enforcement agencies were seen in large numbers in Mezan Chowk, which is in downtown Quetta.
Three people were injured in Liaquat Bazaar when protesters resorted to violence and fired at shopkeepers who did not follow their orders to close their shops. The injured were taken to the Sandeman Hospital where two of the injured are said to be in critical condition. The protesters also torched a motorbike and burned tyres on Jinnah Road, Prince Road, Mezan Chowk, Prince Road and Alamdar Road.
A heavy contingent of police and security forces has called in. To disperse the angry rioters, the police resorted to areal firing and they also lobbed teargas shells at protesters in Liaquat Bazaar.
