LHC cancels demotion orders of seven SIs

Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday suspended the demotion of seven sub inspectors (SIs) and directed the inspector general of police (IGP) to decide the matter after hearing the petitioners.

Asfhaq and six others moved the petition challenging their demotion from SI to ASI rank. The petitioners through their counsels submitted that under Article 25 of the Constitution, no government employee could be demoted without giving him an opportunity of personal hearing. They contended that the Gujranwala regional police officer (RPO) had taken action against them without an ample proof. They requested the court to suspend the orders demoting the petitioners.

After hearing the arguments, Justice Shahzada Mazhar suspended the RPO’s orders of demoting the petitioners and directed the IGP to decide their applications by giving them an opportunity of hearing.
