Dr Shakil Afridi has requested the government and human right activists to take notice of injustice meting out to him in the Central Jail Peshawar.
The letter written on November 30 to his lawyers Samiullah Afridi and Qamar Nadeem, reads, “I am first ever human of the civilised world who was deprived of his right of meeting and counselling his lawyers.” On such grounds, he said, it was difficult for him to expect justice.
The letter also read that amidst chilly weather, he was denied warm clothes and blankets. He said that he lived like a slave in his cell and was deprived of food and other essentials. He said he was not allowed to talk to other prisoners. He apprehended threat to his life in the presence of a large number of militant prisoners.
To allegations framed against him, Afridi said that he conducted a polio vaccination drive after getting the permission from officials concerned. He rejected the allegations and said the political administration of Khyber Agency at the behest of someone framed the baseless charges against him. He, however, showed satisfaction over the role his lawyers were playing in his defence.
His counsel told reporters that neither the prime minister nor the interior minister was aware of the charges, status of the case and condition of Dr Shakil Afridi. He said that the political administration had framed baseless charges against Dr Afridi. He demanded that the government take notice of inhuman, immoral, unethical, unlawful and unconstitutional attitude with Dr Afridi. He also called upon human right organisations and the United Nations to play their role to protect Dr Afridi’s life.
