The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) on Monday announced suspension of gas supply to CNG stations and industries in Punjab for an indefinite period from Tuesday (today).
The SNGPL cited domestic demand during winter season behind its decision to discontinue supplies to CNG stations and industries.
The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) rejected the disconnection of gas supply to CNG sector. In a statement, All Pakistan CNG Association Chairman Ghayas Paracha said the unilateral decision of the gas utility was against the interests of people, violation of law and against the ground realities which would leave millions unemployed.
He said that all the sectors facing disconnection could run their businesses by using furnace oil, but the CNG sector has no alternate available except natural gas.
The decision would damage the CNG sector beyond repair, machinery would catch rust and would be impossible to operate after a long gap that amounts to sinking investment of Rs 450 billion in the sector.
Calling for an immediate reversal of the decision, Paracha said that complete gas suspension for the CNG sector was not agreeable.
