Wheat available in abundance: food minister

Sindh Food Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Thursday said that there is no shortage of wheat in the province.

He was presiding over a meeting of the officers of the Food Department where he said that the official quota of wheat has been determined in accordance with the desire of the flour mills owners who have assured that they would not increase flour prices.

An official statement said that the minister took notice of increase in the flour prices on the part of the flour mills owners.

It was mentioned in the statement that action is being initiated against those who are overcharging without any reason.

The minister said that there was no shortage of wheat in the province and action would be taken against those involved in overcharging.

He said that there can be no increase in the price of flour without permission from the department.

The minister said that for the prompt and adequate supply of wheat, steps have been taken to prevent its smuggling to other provinces in order to frustrate hoarders and smugglers who want to create an artificial shortage in Sindh.

He also asked the officers of the department to keep an eye on flour prices in Karachi and other parts of the province.
