Leading educators, artists, socialites and celebrities joined hands with Special Children’s Educational Institute (SCEI) on Thursday at an event held in connection with the International Day for Persons with Intellectual Challenges.

The event was aimed at creating an acceptance of the intellectually challenged persons in society by showcasing their talents and potential. The event was held at Grandeur Art Gallery with the theme of “I Am Special and So is My Country”.

“We chose this theme to promote a positive attitude not only towards our students but also towards our country and the positive work that goes on everyday but does not get the attention that it deserves,” said the SCEI Principal Saima Haq.

She further said that 42 children have contributed to the art work. Some pieces are done independently while most are collaborated efforts”

“For example one child with limited ability will do the background while another child with more advanced motor skills will add the details. We have involved all our autistic students by using stencils so that each student has the opportunity to spray paint as little or as much as they like.”

“Our Sunflower products help bring a positive image to special children by showing their abilities rather than their disabilities,” added Saima Haq.
