NA unanimously passes resolution expressing grief over Mandela’s demise

The National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution expressing grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Nelson Mandela on Friday.

The resolution moved by Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said Pakistani people shared the pain of South African people over the death of great leader who was revered as icon of true democracy. It said, “Pakistan wishes the South African people to bear this irreparable loss with courage and fortitude.”

Applauding the services of Mandela for democracy and human rights‚ the resolution added Mandela was the person who stood for the rights‚ honour and dignity of oppressed people.

“Pakistan has been at the forefront to dismantle the apartheid and Nelson Mandela appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in this regard.”

Mandela twice visited Pakistan and during his second visit he also addressed the joint sitting of parliament.

The resolution said the great South African leader would continue to live in the hearts and minds of Pakistani people.
