COAS, Asif discuss missing persons issue with Nawaz

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House on Tuesday and discussed the issue of missing persons.
Security situation of the country, professional matters of the armed forces and issue of missing persons also came under discussion.
Nawaz said the missing persons issue should be resolved and court orders should be implemented in this regard. He said that the defence institutions should play their role for this purpose. According to sources, the list of missing person was also discussed.
Nawaz Sharif felicitated General Sharif on assuming the office of the army chief and hoped that the Pakistan Army would further improve its professional capabilities under his leadership.
Nawaz assured the army chief that the government was making all out efforts to improve capabilities of the armed forces.
Gen Sharif briefed the PM about matters related to internal and external security, the Line of Control and other professional issues.
A bench of the Supreme Court has issued orders to the Defence Ministry to produce 33 undeclared detainees in the court. The court was told on Monday that two missing persons had died in a detention centre.
According to sources, the bigwigs discussed on Tuesday the court orders and ways to satisfy the court in the crucial case hearing.
Separately, the COAS also called on President Mamnoon Hussain. The president congratulated the army chief for becoming Pakistan’s 15th COAS. Matters pertaining to the national and regional security and military’s professional matters were discussed in their maiden meeting. The president hoped that the Pakistan Army would further improve its professional capabilities under his leadership.
