Advisor to Prime Minister Amir Muqam said on Tuesday that all the political and religious parties had expressed their confidence in the government policy for holding talks with the Taliban for restoration of peace.
Amir Muqam expressed these views while addressing a gathering attended among others by presidents and general secretaries of the PMLN from all the districts of KPK, party office-bearers from Fata, MNAs and MPAs, representatives of sub-organisations of the party and party workers in a large number. The gathering was held to congratulate Amir Muqam over his appointment as advisor to the prime minister.
The PML-N government wanted to bring the Taliban militants on the table for talks in order to avoid further bloodshed of innocent people, he added.
The PML-N leader highly lauded the services of interior minister regarding peace talks which, he said, were also acknowledged by the PTI Chief Imran Khan. The decision to hold talks with the Taliban should not be construed as weakness of the government but a viable policy to end terrorism and extremism.
The country suffered damages due to the menace of terrorism during the last one decade and the present government was taking serious measures to get rid of this problem once for all, he argued.
The PML-N government was against drone strikes and took up this issue at every forum including the United Nations. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his recent visit to the USA effectively raised this issue with the US administration and US President Barrack Obama, he said. The day was not far off when there would be peace in the country, he maintained.
The load shedding, he said, had reduced by 70 percent as compared to the last year, expressing confidence that it would be totally eliminated by the end of the mandated period of the present regime.
The change of guard in Pakistan army, he said, was a good omen for the country and democracy, and expressed his hope that soon a peaceful change would also be made in the superior judiciary.
He said the PTI government in the KPK had adopted dual policy regarding NATO supplies, adding the blockade had created problems for the local transporters. The PTI was taking US dollars in aid from the UN and other agencies for making reforms in the local government system and social sectors but in their public meetings and ‘Dharnas’ they spoke against dollars.
He urged the provincial government to stop forthwith pursuing vindictive policies against the opponents and unnecessary posting and transfers of the employees in education and health departments.
He said the PML-N obtained around one million votes in 2013 elections as against 4,00,000 votes in 2008 general elections. It indicated that the party position had improved in the province, he added. The party in the KPK was united under the leadership of Pir Sabir Shah and it would emerge stronger in the coming years in the province.
He called upon the party workers to get themselves ready for the local government elections. He thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for reposing confidence in him (Amir Muqam).
