Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Sunday said the PTI was motivated by the public sentiments to block the NATO supplies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing a press conference jointly with Wafaqul Madaris General Secretary Hanif Jalandhari, Qureshi said the PTI’s stand on drone attacks was very clear. He said the issue of drone strikes was a national and humanitarian problem and doesn’t solely belong to the PTI. He said his party was creating national consensus over the issue of drone attacks and it will also raise voice in parliament over the issue.
Qureshi said the PTI believed in talks to resolve all issues, but the drone problem persisted despite utilisation of the diplomatic channels by the government. He said being in the provincial government, the PTI has no power to move the United Nations Security Council over the issue.
The PTI leader said the envoys of NATO and European Union would meet PTI Chairman Imran Khan on December 5 in which Imran would present Pakistan’s viewpoint on drone attacks. He said the providing security to the provinces was the responsibility of the federal government. He said instead of giving statements the federal government should move shoulder to shoulder with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to resolve issues.
He said the KP government has blocked the NATO supplies for the last nine days and will not open the route till the US assures end to drone strikes.
However, he said, the Afghan Transit Trade vehicles are not being stopped by the KP government. He appreciated the role of Wafaqul Madaris to prevent violence in the wake of the Rawalpindi incident.
