The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has renamed the Directorate of Counterterrorism (DCT) as the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The CTD will have a mandate to intelligence collection, surveillance and monitoring, registration of terrorism cases, investigation of ATA cases, arrest and detentions and research and analysis.
The strength of the directorate has been merged into the Counterterrorism Department and the sanctioned strength of CTD will be one DIG, 12 SPs, 43 DSPs, 153 inspectors, 289 subinspectors, 249 assistant subinspectors, 314 head constables, 1,170 constables, and 119 drivers.
For operational purposes, seven police stations (one at CCP and one each at six regional headquarters), will be operational. These police stations will also work as detention centres. Until the construction of new police stations, the KP inspector general will declare existing police buildings in CCP and different regions of function as CTD police stations. It was notified by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department.
